The Black Business Students Association’s Annual Conference is the longest running student-led event in Columbia Business School’s history. This year BBSA is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this event. To commemorate the great strides Blacks have made in business and industry, as well as the vast potential for future success, we have chosen the theme, “Looking Back, Moving Forward.”
To represent this year’s theme we have chosen the Adinkra symbol “Sankofa,” which means “go back and fetch it”. The Akan people of Ghana have used “Sankofa” to symbolize the proverb “it is not wrong to go back for what you have forgotten.” The symbol can be interpreted as taking all that is good from the past and bringing it to the present. It is in this spirit that we celebrate all of the accomplishments Blacks in business have made over the past thirty years, and strategize ways to move forward into an even brighter future.
